Lindsley Lighting | green. smart. beautiful. - Lindsley Lighting designs, produces and sells light fixtures that combine high design with superior energy efficient light sources and sustainable green materials and production. All fixtures are original designs using solid state LED lighting.

About Green Lighting

Our Green Lighting Manifesto
Green Lighting is an emerging field that is quickly evolving. Lindsley Lighting looks at Green Lighting through what we call the greencycle process. The greencycle addresses all aspects of the green lifecycle of a fixture. Our aim is to minimize the carbon footprint of each fixture. As new technologies and information emerge we will continuously look for ways to lighten the impact of our fixtures.

Light Sources: The most energy efficient light source today is solid state lighting, more commonly known as LEDs (light emitting diodes). Today LEDs use approximately the same amount of energy as a compact fluorescent light bulb, but they last as much as 10 times as long. While compact fluorescents are known to last about 10,000 hours, the estimated lifespan of quality LEDs is at least 50,000 hours. Contrary to fluorescent and incandescent bulbs that “die” instantly, the brightness of LEDs fades over time. Their lifespan is considered “over” when they reach 70% of their original brightness. Additionally, LEDs do not contain the mercury found in fluorescents.

Light Color: People prefer light sources that most closely imitate the light color we associate with firelight. To date, incandescent light bulbs have done this best. Most people dislike the color of light that comes from fluorescent and LED sources, considering them too blue, harsh and glaring. Lindsley Lighting uses LED arrays that provide warm light. While not a green practice per se, any time we can provide light that is pleasing to the human eye, we will.

Materials: All fixtures are made of materials that are recycled and/or recyclable. We only use woods that are sustainably harvested from certified producers. We select metals, glass and plastics that have a life before and/or after the life of the fixture. Wiring is made of copper covered in Teflon-based insulation, a non-toxic alternative to PVC coated wire.

Designs: We offer fixtures that have a timeless quality, whether they are modern, classically or botanically inspired. We want the design to be relevant for decades.

Packaging: Lindsley Lighting works to reduce the amount of packaging we use as well as use materials that are made of materials that have a greencyle of their own. Our challenge is making sure the fixtures are properly protected for transit to your project. Whenever possible, we package fixtures together. We encourage our customers to recycle or reuse all their packaging.

Transit: All manufacturing is done within the US. This reduces the distance that fixtures need to travel to get to their final destination. Whenever possible, we have the fixtures shipped directly from the manufacturer to the job site, so they are not shipped twice.

Recycling: LEDs are mounted on a small circuit board. Lindsley Lighting only uses LEDs and printed circuit boards that do not have lead or mercury in them, facilitating their efficient recycling. The market for these is emerging and we promise to stay at the forefront of how these can best be reused or recycled. All other materials in the body of the fixtures (wood, metal, glass and plastic) can be disassembled and recycled. The copper in the wiring can also be reused or recycled.
